Lesnar vs Reigns and Maybe Also Some Other Matches: A WrestleMania 38 Preview
This weekend, Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar are going to take part in a the biggest match in WrestleMania history when they face one another in a highly-anticipated and truly stupendous WINNER TAKE ALL Championship Unification Match. Allegedly, some other matches will also be happening.
This, folks, is our WrestleMania 38 preview.
Look, I'm not going to pretend that I've been following WWE closely. I'm not even going to pretend that I would know the entire card if I didn't look it up. But I what I am going to do is make snarky comments about the show, because if we don't have that, then what do we have?
We once again have a two-night WrestleMania and, in many ways, that makes sense. It's better to have the show over two nights than it is to watch like eight straight hours of WWE on a Sunday. However, there's something weird about this event. It feels very weak.
Yes, Lesnar vs Reigns for both belts (or whatever they're doing) is a huge match. Even though it's happened a bunch of time (including at two other WrestleManias), it still deserves the main event slot. The problem is that everything else on the show just feels kind of there.
Anyway, here's the official card from WWE:
SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair vs. Ronda Rousey
Raw Women’s Champion Becky Lynch vs. Bianca Belair
"Stone Cold" Steve Austin to confront Kevin Owens on "The KO Show" at WrestleMania
Seth Rollins to face an opponent of Mr. McMahon's choosing on WrestleMania Saturday
Rey & Dominik Mysterio vs. The Miz & Logan Paul
Xavier Woods & Kofi Kingston vs. Sheamus & Ridge Holland
Drew McIntyre vs. Happy Corbin
SmackDown Tag Team Champion The Usos vs. Shinsuke Nakamura & Rick Boogs
WWE Champion Brock Lesnar vs. Universal Champion Roman Reigns (Winner Take All Championship Unification)
Edge vs. AJ Styles
Women’s Tag Team Champions Queen Zelina & Carmella vs. Sasha Banks & Naomi vs. Rhea Ripley & Liv Morgan vs. Natalya & Shayna Baszler
Raw Tag Team Champions RK-Bro vs. The Street Profits vs. Alpha Academy (Triple Threat Match)
Bobby Lashley vs. Omos
Pat McAfee vs. Austin Theory
Johnny Knoxville vs. Sami Zayn (Anything Goes Match)
That's A LOT of matches. Yet the Intercontinental Title and the US Title couldn't get on the show? Anyway, there's no way I'm breaking all of those down. And that's honestly because only a few of them are interesting.
In addition to Brock/Reigns, the other matches that I'll likely care about are Edge vs AJ Styles, the KO Show with Stone Cold Steve Austin, Charlotte Flair vs Ronda Rousey, Becky Lynch vs Bianca Belair, and Seth Rollins vs Cody Rhodes a mystery opponent *wink wink nudge nudge*.
Everything else? The matches themselves may be good and some may even be great, but I can't be bothered to go into them in any depth. Is that because I haven't been watching the product? Maybe. There's a chance that I'm missing some great characters and stories by not watching the weekly shows, but I don't really think that's the case. If it is, I guess I'll be pleasantly surprised this weekend.
As for predictions, I don't have many.
Roman should win his match, since the person who gets to finally dethrone him will get a huge push and it should be someone who isn't already super over. Though, this is WWE so there's a good chance they pad Brock's already legendary resume with a win here.
Seth Rollins has been booked like a big loser heading into WrestleMania, since he's apparently too stupid to just challenge someone to a match or attack someone or whatever. Because of that, it would nice for him to win his match, but there's no way Cody is losing in his return. Apparently the winner of this match will face the "Unified Champion", so I guess we'll get Cody vs Roman soon?
AJ Styles and Edge will be a great match. I hope AJ wins and that the win pushes him back up the card because he's too good to be anything but a main event star.
Ronda will beat Charlotte and hopefully Bianca defeats Becky Lynch.
Steve Austin will stun Kevin Owens.
So that's it. That's what what we're doing. I'll likely have a Mania review next week once the show is over, so look for that. Or don't. You can do whatever you want.
I don't mean to be a downer here. WrestleMania is almost always fun. I'll be watching. I just won't be emotionally invested in Drew McIntyre vs Happy Corbin and I honestly don't know who will.
